Outlined below are the Terms and Conditions that apply whenever I hold therapy sessions with a client.
A session is defined as a meeting which has been agreed verbally or in writing, whether or not it is attended. The place and format of meeting, appointment time and length of session are mutually decided. A single therapy session usually takes place weekly or twice weekly and lasts for 50 minutes at the same time and place, but this may be negotiated according to your need and circumstances.
An initial session is a meeting where we plan how to go forward before we agree to work together. In this session, which is chargeable at a reduced rate. I would explore a little about your life story and what has brought you to therapy, and you could find out if you felt comfortable and at ease and wanted to continue. You would also have the chance to ask about anything else you may not be sure about. At this meeting we will look at scheduling future appointments. You will not be expected to make any decisions at this meeting to make further appointments. Appointments can be weekly or fortnightly.
I work with an open-ended contract, that is we will not necessarily agree to a set number of sessions, unless you feel this is useful to you. We will review the sessions regularly and this will assist in the agreement of an ending which is mutually respectful.
My fees can be found on the "Fees" page of this website. Should we agree to continue with therapy after your first appointment or exploratory session, I expect payment for each face-to-face session to be made at the end of the session, in cash. Please note I do not have payment card facilities. Fees may be up for review according to economic situations. Concessions may be available according to circumstance.
If you cancel a session you will agree to pay the full fee for the missed session, since I will be charged for the hire of the room. Occasionally I may be able to accommodate you with a different time; however, alternative arrangements may not always be possible.
If you arrive late for your session for whatever reason, we will still need to finish at the correct time as I may have another client to see after your session. Also, if you are running late, I would appreciate it if you could telephone me on (07561) 428442, leaving a message if necessary.
Please ensure that your mobile phone is switched off at the start of your session.
I follow the code of ethics of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (www.bacp.co.uk). All material discussed in our sessions remains confidential and will not be disclosed to any person/organisation without your express consent. Exceptions to this rule would be if I am required to disclose information by a court of law, or in order to protect you or another person from significant harm such as abuse or neglect of a child that is current and not historic or Involvement in criminal or terrorist activities. I would however discuss this with you and a supervisor, if appropriate beforehand.
Therapists are also required to have clinical supervision. As with all registered psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK I attend regular supervision. This is a requirement from my accrediting bodies. Any material discussed in supervision remains confidential and my supervisors are bound to the same ethics of confidentiality. Any Information held about you such as name and telephone number, is covered by the Data Protection Act 1998, and will not be disclosed to third parties.
In the unlikely event that our work has to terminate because, for example, I am involved in a serious accident, and I am unable to inform you personally, I will have entrusted a BACP registered and highly trusted colleague the task of contacting you and discussing the situation with you. In this event my colleague will then have access to your contact details and the basic details of what our work is e.g. long-term therapy, consultancy and any information that is ethically necessary to impart.
